as evident by my recordings, and videos – i am still seeking to unlock the code of ‘SysteMumbles’. i came up with the term systemumbles to define the occasional stream of the stammering / stuttering way back in 2012. i found it fascinating, how words often got lost in the sauce of my mouth. I come from a heritage of black people in the south that would often murmur words in between sentences. (anyone that talks to me regularly can vouch for this! hahah ) everybody in the south pretty much got it but being in Sweden at the time – most people around me had no clue what I was saying. hence when I created this concept piece to represent how I felt annoyed and embarrassed by fumbling on words while speaking.
SysteMumbles is very well the audible ghost of the stutter. when the mumble in the system begins to crumble; a sadness is painted on the face of shutdown. the desire to achieve understanding (paradise clarity) is begged to be arrived, by words trapped in the mind. they seem unable to reach the mouth unless they trip on another word that was not intended to be spoken. when this happens, in a live setting / there’s not much you can do but correct the misplaced word and breathe accordingly.
“THE TOKENS HAVE ALL FELL OVER INTO A SHALLOW CREEK – AS OUR POCKETS WERE FULL, WE COULD HARDLY SPEAK. BLESSED BE THE STAGGERING MOTIONS OF THE SEA – FOR WOE WAS ME, NO LONGER THEE – FOR WE HAVE FOUND THE KEY!”
i find it hilariously ironic, that this very line is the one i stumbled on. my pockets were not full but i still found myself unable to speak the right word i was looking for.
within the real time equation of public speaking, some words can’t help but get trapped and rearranged. however, most people don’t process and are unaware of systemumbles – it doesn’t make the experience less embarrassing or awkward however. (WHEN YOU LOOK BACK YOU CAN SEE OBVIOUSLY THE INDICATION OF A STUTTERING) WHICH IS OK! We’re HUE_MAN after all and such is a natural thing to occur.
there’s a lot to be said; about those that develop a consistent practice to be the best at what they do. the sagaciousness of the GREATS are what inspire me to give my greatest performance.
“STUDY THE GREATS AND BECOME GREATER.” is what Michael Jackson expressed often. One way the greats attempted to be sharper; is that they watched and recorded themselves nearly every chance they got. Kobe Bryant and Prince both shared a practice i’m sure many belonging to their pedigree embody. they constantly watched themselves while practicing and performing. to be fair, this isn’t unusual in the realm of sports. coaches often want to plan ahead and by seeing the result of a missed move – you know not to miss again the same way.
